Basic
Moves | Advanced Moves
Run - this is her
default moving speed. Just use the arrow keys to run in
whichever direction.
Walk - this is good for
dangerous situations like around cliffs and other
precipes. Use the arrow key in conjunction with the Walk
key.
Draw
Weapons
- press the Draw/Holster Weapons key. The Action key
fires the weapon.
Block
Push/Pull - walk up to a block, get close to the
center (it works better). Now while pressing the Action
key, press either the Up Arrow (to push) or the Down
Arrow (to pull) the block. This is used a lot :)
Sidestep
(strafing for all you Quakers :) - Side Step Left
key to sidestep Left; Side Step Right to sidestep Right
Dive
(or Roll) - be careful with this one, because if Lara
does it from a higher surface towards solid ground, she
will die (thanks to Jim Gaynor for pointing that out).
Anyways, press the Walk key and the Jump key, then press
the up arrow. If she does it towards water, Lara will
dive in. If she does it toward solid ground, she will do
a forward roll.
Swan
Dive -
same as the dive or roll but just do it off of a high
cliff INTO the water. Lara goes real deep real fast.
Flip
While Diving - same as the dive or roll but just do it
off of a high cliff INTO the water and press the End key
or 5 key while in the air. Basically pointless but fun to
watch nonetheless. (Thanks to DreamSiren for this one)
Direction
Change Roll - allows Lara to switch directions quickly;
useful if you are suddenly attacked from behind. Simply
press the 5 on the numeric keypad. You can also press Up
and Down Arrows simultaneously. (Thanks Vertigo)
Climb - Certain sufaces
in Tomb Raider 2 can be climbed. To do this place Lara
against the wall and pres up and the action key. The
surface has to be vertical. The surfaces that she can
climb usually resemble ladders or craggy rock or ice
surfaces.
Climbing
Back Flip- While climbing Lara can do a back flip off
of the wall. This is a good way to get off the wall in a
hurry. Just don't do it too far from the ground. When you are climbing something
while stillholding down ctrl and up, push shift(walk) and
jump at the same time.Lara will jump backwards and flip
over landing facing the other way. (thanks to Ginny
Blocher)
Jumps - mastering Lara's
different types of jumps is critical to succeeding in
Tomb Raider. Lara can jump in any direction simply by
pressing the Jump and almost immediately pressing the
arrow key of the direction you want to jump in. If you
use the direction keys while Lara is in the air, then you
can make her turn while she is still jumping.
Jump
with a Twist - can be done forwards or backwards. Allows
Lara to switch directions quickly while in the air;
useful if you are suddenly attacked from behind you can
jump over the enemy, change direction and land facing the
enemy firing at them. Simply press the 5 on the numeric
keypad or the End key while doing a jump. It's not real
easy so it will probably take some practice until you can
do it everytime.
- Run
Look- while running it is now possible to look
around. Just
start walking/running in a direction, and hold
down look - you can then turn your head back and
forth (you can't look up/down, and you have to
let go of look to change walking/running
direction, obviously) - this will be VERY good
for approaching dangerous corners! (thanks to
Dave Weiden for this one)
- Edge
Jump - use the Walk key and the Up Arrow
to move to the edge. Don't worry, holding down
the walk key ensures that Lara is unable to fall
off. Then press Jump and then almost immediately
press the Up arrow.
- Running
Edge Jump - use the Walk key and the Up Arrow
to move to the edge. Still holding the Walk key,
take 2 steps backwards. Press the Up Arrow and
almost immediately press the Jump key. Lara won't
actually jump until she reaches the edge (if you
do it right).
- Back
Flip - tap back, then back and jump and
she'll do quite a nifty back flip.
- Jump
and Grab - This can be done with any jump.
After you have hit the right keys to perform the
jump, then hold the Action key. Hold it down and
Lara will grab on to the ledge. At that point you
can either push the Up Arrow and go up onto the
ledge or press the Right or Left Arrows and
shimmy sideways.
- Safety
Drop - Alot of people don't know about
this move. Face away from the edge and while
pressing the Action key take one step backwards.
Lara will grab onto the ledge instead of falling.
This makes some falls survivable, but not all, so
be careful.
- Safety
Drop and Land on Ledge - Normally you can do the
safety drop by facing away from the ledge, hold
action (CTRL), and pressing back. Lara will
jump off and grab on to the ledge. Another way to
do it is to let go of the action button BEFORE
she grabs on to the ledge (release action as once
she's in the air, at the start of the jump).
Somehow she has gained some "forward"
momentum, and she can drop to the ledge directly
below the one she was standing on !
- Roll/Safety
Drop - Do a roll toward a cliff while
holding the Action key and Lara will end up in
the Safety drop position.
- Hand
Stand/Walkover - This move really isn't
useful, but it just looks cool. When you have
Lara grab an edge that she can climb onto, press
the Walk key and up and she will go into a
handstand and then into a walkover. It's pretty
groovy (thanks to Gatorman for reminding me of
this move).
- Hi-jump
Combo - I'll let Jim Gaynor explain this
one: Do a running jump at a slanted wall (one too
steep to walk up) and keep holding down the jump
button. Rather than slam into the wall, Lara will
hit the wall and backflip off it. This can get
you almost twice as high as a regular backflip,
and can be useful around 'raptors.
